Age reshapes what “value” means in online shopping. For older Americans, it is primarily about minimizing total cost and reducing purchase risk: of consumers aged 65+ prioritize the best overall price, look for free or low-cost shipping, and value easy, reliable returns. Among 18–24-year-olds, price still leads, but at a much lower , suggesting that younger shoppers are more willing to trade some savings for convenience or a better digital experience.
That trade-off is most visible in delivery speed. Around half of consumers aged 18–34 consider fast delivery important, compared with only of those aged 65+. Younger adults are also more responsive to flexible payments, personalized recommendations and sustainability, each attracting roughly 12– in the under-35 segments but almost disappearing among the oldest group. Loyalty rewards sit between these two generational mindsets, maintaining moderate relevance across age groups without becoming a defining priority for any single cohort.
